Off Of The Beaten Path
Project Duration
November 2022 - January 2023
Location
Northycote Farm, Wolverhampton
Walking down the same path surrounded by the purest of what wildlife has to offer, you believe you have escaped the realities of city life for a period of time—replacing the dirty pavements with dirt paths, skyscrapers with towering trees, constant traffic noise with bird calls overhead. However, wherever we go, we always leave an ever-lasting impression on the ground we walk. Off the track further into the woods, we start to see the impressions swept away and hidden by nature growing all around but never being able to reclaim the space entirely.
Tracie-Ann Price is a photographer who explores and brings awareness to the present issue of the invasion that litter has on our wildlife through cyanotypes of photographed rubbish found while walking through the surrounding woods of Northycote farm. In this series, 'Off the Beaten Track', she works with handmade paper from recycled newspaper and cardboard found at home, throughout being conscious of her impact. The inspiration for this series was her recent walks through the same woods she has been through since her childhood, where she noticed the ever-growing amount of litter scattered across the floor—seeing the harsh contrast the artificial objects had within the surrounding natural wildlife which was trying to reclaim the space it has taken.
